Overview:

AXIS is an acronym for Adroit eXtractor Interface Software.
It is state-of-the-art client/server software developed by Adroit Consulting Limited for reporting purposes.

AXIS is a powerful and multi-datasource information retrieval that combines an enterprise report generation facility with data manipulation functionality using SQL statements, and provides easy access to data on different servers through the simple, easy-to-master connector.

AXIS enables novice users to create simple, very sophisticated, clear and organized XML reports based on CBN/NDIC requirements without worrying about any programming requirements and its extended facilities allow experienced users to perform advanced tasks.

This places the power of report design, creation and updating into the hands of end-users. While providing default formatting and positioning, AXIS gives the user total Control over every aspect of what is placed on the report.

eFASS templates in AXIS are designed and edited interactively by previewing at any time. AXIS provides complete support for sorting, grouping, filtering, formatting, positioning, calculated fields, automatic totaling and more.

AXIS works in heterogenous environments, user can generate eFASS reports with data from multiple repositories such as MS-Access, SQL Server, DB2, Oracle, Excel, Foxpro, Dbase 3, Dbase 4 and Text files, and output the results to a file.

AXIS eliminates the challenges of rendition of Returns the reporting institutions are facing such as:

  1. Inability to map/export database directly to returns templates.
  2. Skills gap on eFASS. This often leads to errors in the returns submitted.
  3. Allocating many resources to eFASS by reporting institutions.
  4. Lack of coordination between various reporting units within the reporting institution AXIS saves costs of penalties and the embarrassment to the reporting institution with the following functionalities:
  5. AXIS Designer: very easy and user-friendly for creating report.
  6. Report definition are template based.
  7. AEasy access to ODBC database fields.
  8. AXIS Parameters: User defines them; assign them to queries at design time.
  9. Exports to Excel (Windows) and HTML.
  10. AXIS Wizard: Easy steps to create report from wizard screens.
  11. Data Entry input screen layout wizard.
  12. Facility to create and design different custom forms for the collection of data.
  13. Facility for electronic storing of all necessary transaction records and lodgements.
  14. Facility to set up table of the description and validation rules for a variety of fields AXIS supports administrative functions, such as creating and editing user accounts, users’ mode and access rights.

AXIS supports administrative functions, such as creating and editing user accounts, users’ mode and access rights.
As client/server software, it provides client/server processing by intelligently dividing processing between the client and the server: the user interface and much of the business logic are done by the client workstation while the data access logics are done on the server.

AXIS can be installed on a dedicated computer or nondedicated computer depends on the user’s choice.
A non-dedicated computer provides a more economical way for the reporting institution because it doesn’t require the purchase of another computer.

AXIS greatly supports multi-user environment through the TCP/IP network and single user environment for a small business-organization.

Introducing eFASS

Efass is an acronym for electronic financial analysis and surveillance system.

CBN developed eFASS to replace bank analysis system (BAS)due to the increasing size and complexity of Nigerian banking industry.

eFASS takes care of the quantitative aspects of supervision that enables the CBN adopts a more risk-focused, qualitative approach to supervision. eFASS serves as a decision support system for CBN by facilitating submissions online.

It processes returns and provides CBN authorities with a vast range of analytical reports and ratios.
eFASS automates routine aspects of surveillance by identifying breaches in statutory regulations and identifying problem institutions through early warning reports.

Efass Advantages are:

  1. It is an automated process of returns submission from the reporting institutions.
  2. Being a web-based application, it receives returns from all the reporting institutions(Banks, discount house, micro finance Banks, Primary Mortgage institutions, Bureau De change, Customs It enables an on-line submission of returns to the CBN/NDIC & inspection Agents, Hotel, etc).
  3. It performs analysis and generates reports.
  4. Wider scope –It covers off-site surveillance and on-site supervision of banks, discount houses, other financial institutions, customs Daily monitoring is made possible/easy through daily returns &inspection agents, hotel, oil company ,etc.
  5. It make possible an automated data extraction from reporting institutions’ database to return templates without manual intervention.
  6. Re-validation of received data at the CBN is possible and there is option for possible re-submission by the reporting institutions.
  7. Provide a single authentic database for all internal user in CBN/NDIC.
  8. Processing of information and generation of reports are automatic.
  9. Provision is made for a module that is used during on-site examinations of reporting institutions.
  10. Better quality information is produced.
  11. It track total liabilities of borrowers cutting across one or more financial institutions.
  12. It eliminate manual working papers and storage of reports in hard copies.
  13. It monitors disbursement and utilization of foreign exchange by the different industrial sectors.

The Data Submission System (DSS) enables reporting institutions to automate the rendition of statutory returns, thus requiring less time and efforts in the process.

The DSS passes the generated XML file through the appropriate module to produce a ‘jar’ file.
The produced jar file is simply a compressed and encoded file that each reporting institutions would transmit via the link provided by the CBN to a designated server.
Before a DSS can be available for a reporting institutions must have registered with CBN/NDIC.
Institution code, institution name, registration ID, user name and password are required for the successful login to the secured DSS. DSS DSS provide facility for off-site surveillance, on –site surveillance and policy management.

The surveillance reports are designed to address the management information needs and strengthen MIS within the reporting institution. A collateral objective of the reporting system is to concerns of the supervisory authority and thereby also help in self-regulatory.

DSS Depends on the functions that a reporting institution intends to perform, DSS provides facilities for Bank returns, Bank restructuring returns, Money laundering returns, etc.
DSS The returns are divided into different frequencies: daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and on request (From time to time).
The number of call reports processed on daily, weekly ,monthly and quarterly varies.
Some call reports are mandatory while some are optional.
Optional call report at times can be mandatory is there is a link to it any of the mandatory call reports.

This make the number of call reports for any frequency to be dynamic and not static.
The validation report panel always indicates which of templates is not needed.
DSS DSS is an intelligent utility that detects various violations of data in the call reports.
It displays messages such as cross validation result (CVR),template not needed, amount not equal to certain percentage required, total amount is not equal to sub totals, etc.

DSS allows user to go back and do the necessary correction and revalidate.
Only when errors and cross validation reports have been properly solved that the DSS display validated successfully’ message and thereby move user to the next stage to generate an encrypted output called ‘JAR’ for onward submission to CBN/NDIC.

DSS For any call report to be valid, such a report must have valid header, body and footer information.
Each call report body has columns and rows. The screenshot bellow is an example of call report structure.

Facts And Benefits

AXIS contain integrated modules that enables end-users to create very sophisticated, clear and organized XML reports based on CBN/NDIC requirements without worrying about any programming requirements. This places the power of report design, creation and updating into the hands of end-users.

While providing default formatting and positioning, AXIS gives the user total control over every aspect of what is placed on the report.

The following are the top ten reasons why your institution should consider using AZIS to automate reliable statutory returns as required by CBN/NDIC:

  1. User –friendly Non-programmers can easily use axis as each report design is driven by customized wizards based on the templates once you’ve finished the design, you can immediately review your report layout. You can make simple changes by changing the layout, or retrace your steps to make major changes .AXIS retain all your initial choices, so don‘t have to start from scratch.
  2. Easy to use AXIS offers the user both ease of use and flexibility. Much of the manual setup required by other reporting tools is done automatically by AXIS. Many setup and runtime features of axis are missing in other reporting tools and this product is the answer for that.
  3. Wizard Driven AXIS is powerful wizards guide user step by step through creating a report or a query. The three distinct functions ,available are report set creation, query builder and report generator.
  4. Easy connection to different ODBC databases The database connection wizard in Axis makes it easy to connect to any relational database such as MS-Access, MS-SQL server, Excel, Oracle, Foxpro, DB2,Dbase3, Dbase 4 and flat file delimited by comma or tab or pipe.
It presents to the user with alist of the views, tables, and the preview window lets user to see the data to use in the design or that will be imported.
  5. Template driven Axis is a template driven product.
It is possible to create as many templates as needed. Each template can have as many simple nodes, choices nodes and iteration nodes. The kind of nodes that can exist in a template depends on the kind of the data expected to be generated from it.
  6. Easy report generation After the fields and tables are selected, and the script is saved the report can be generated and preview any time without loosing the settings.
You can select in AXIS the kind of report you which to generate and whether the report should be saved into another table for further analysis. Different reports can be generated together or separately – it depends on user’s choice.
  7. Powerful parameter form The built in parameter form enable the user to create and use statics and dynamic variables in a template script before report execution. parameters provide the ultimate in flexibility when running scripts.
Unlimited parameters can be defined. System variables are parameterized and can be used in a query, report or both.
  8. Saves Time & Resources Complex reports can be created simply by selecting the tables and the fields in the report creation wizard in a few minutes and with a minimum learning curve a user can generate variety of reports thereby save greater time in writing programs.
  9. Data Entry Facility AXIS has powerful facility for an input form for an end-user who does not have an application for the daily operations and general ledger automation.
With the tables can be created for storing data for further use or mapping into templates.
  10. Regulatory Authority penalties avoidance .
Late submission or non submission of statutory report is a serious offence that attracts penalty for each day the return is outstanding [section 25(3) of (BOIFA)1991 as amended ].

With AXIS all the problems that could lead a user to be rendering returns lately would be addressed during implementation.
Problems such as unable to connect directly to the database, unable to map general ledger lines and validation errors that reqire user to be manually modify the xml generated before DSS could validate the reports are totally addressed during the implementation.
